Tags

Dussehra, Durgashtami, Vijaya Dashami is considered to be one of the main festivals celebrated all over the India. Dussehra comes on Dashami, Aswayuja according to the Hindu calendar. There are two famous stories that heard mostly are:
  1.  Lord Rama killed Demon Ravana
  2.  Lord Durga killed Demon Mahishasura

1. Lord Rama killed Demon Ravana

Rama obeying his father’s instructions went to the forest, leaving Ayodhya with Sita and Laxmana. Ravana kidnaps the Sita and after distracting the Rama, Laxmana and kept her in Lanka. Rama with the help of Laxmana and Hanuman went to Lanka and killed the Ravana in their battle on this day(Dashami of Aswayuja Masa).

2. Lord Durga killed Demon Mahishasura

Mahishasura is one the powerful Asura, who gained victories over the gods. The world was in trouble as he started conquering the heaven. The gods, including the Bhrama, Vishnu and Maheswara are looking for a new power to stop Mahishasura, then the all the gods combined their powers to form a new power, which gives the birth to Durga Mata with 10 hands and each god gave their special weapons to her. Durga Mata gained victory over the Mahishasura on the 10th day.

However, there are many stories but the moral of all the stories is good defeating the evil. The importance of the festivals is to spread the happiness and peace.

Happy Dussehra :)
